Reuse a creative structure without copying a creator's claim

Separate a reference video’s creative structure from its factual claims before adapting it for your SaaS.

Record the structure without importing its claims

A reference can suggest a sequence: a reaction, a problem, a screen action and a closing line. That structure is different from the original creator’s exact words, footage, identity, product facts and performance claims. Describe what each part does in neutral terms before drafting your own concept.

This is an invented planning example, not an analysis of an actual creator video: a reference outline might begin with surprise, then show a software action. The outline tells you nothing about whether the same action or result exists in your product.

Rewrite from your own product facts

Assume the fictional reference claims “the app automatically sends my follow-ups.” Your product might only display a next-step section in a saved note. Do not reuse that claim or imply automatic sending. A suitable original direction could be: “wait, the next steps are in the note,” followed by a real recording that opens that section.

Write three columns: the role of the reference segment, the fact or claim it makes, and the verified fact available for your own product. If there is no matching fact, change the message or reject the concept. Changing a brand name does not turn an unsupported claim into a supported one.

Respect the reference and the speaker

Keep a record of the source and whether you have permission for any asset you intend to reuse. A link or screenshot alone does not establish rights; seek permission or use your own licensed materials. Create original wording and footage instead of assuming another creator’s transcript or likeness is available to copy.

Do not present an invented AI speaker as a real user or claim personal experience they did not have. If you use a real testimonial or customer story, verify the exact quote and obtain appropriate consent.

Check the finished concept against evidence

Review each sentence alongside the real product view that supports it. If a feature is not visible, show it clearly or remove the assertion. If the product needs conditions or setup, include those conditions where they matter. Use sanitized, permissioned screen footage and review captions for accuracy.

Record the creative decision separately from any performance observation. A structure can be a useful experiment without demonstrating that your version will earn similar views, retention or sales.

Copy the planning worksheet

Use this worksheet in your own notes. Fill it with verified product details and actual review observations before sharing an asset.
