Give the footage a supporting role
In a wall-of-text video, the words normally carry the main message. Choose footage that fits the situation without forcing the viewer to decode a second story at the same time. Before selecting a clip, write the approved overlay and identify the moment it describes.
This example is a fictional plan about finding next steps after a call. It does not describe an actual recorded clip or a measured creative result.
Compare a matched and a distracting plan
Overlay: “the call is over. the follow-up is tomorrow. open the project note and check the next-step section.” A calm desk or post-call moment could support that situation if you own or can license it, and if a clear area remains for text. A rapidly moving interface or a busy unrelated party scene would compete with the words and may make the message harder to follow.
If the message needs proof that a feature exists, include a real sanitized product screen where appropriate. A generated desk scene can illustrate context but cannot verify the software feature.
| Background choice | Potential issue | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Calm relevant workspace | May support the post-call context | Readable area remains clear |
| Fast moving interface | Competes with the overlay | Slow down or use a demo format |
| Unrelated busy scene | Creates a second story | Choose footage that supports the words |
| Generated interface | Does not prove a feature | Use a real product screen for proof |
Check the entire moving frame
Preview the text over the whole clip at the intended phone size. Watch for moving hands, bright lights, faces or signage crossing the text. Check contrast in both bright and dark frames and ensure platform controls will not cover critical words. Adjust placement, add a suitable backing treatment or select a calmer clip rather than assuming the first frame represents the whole video.
Add the exact copy as editable text. Do not rely on generated pixels to reproduce the approved wording accurately.
Review rights and the final export
Record the source and permission for the background, music and any recognizable person. A reference link does not itself grant reuse rights. If permissions are unclear, select owned or appropriately licensed material. Avoid presenting an illustrative generated scene as a customer testimonial.
Watch the exported video at normal speed and ask someone to summarize the written message. If they cannot read it comfortably, shorten the copy or give it more time. Keep actual before-and-after clips and observations only when they have been created and approved.
